Hey, everyone! So I recently realized that the last journal I had written was from when I was a junior in high school. Seeing as how I'm going into my second year in college, I thought perhaps it was time to update that. You know, just maybe.

So...I'm attending the University of Texas at Austin. I'm a Religious Studies major, and no, I don't know what I'm going to do with that. But I'm loving it - someone once said "if you want to know where your heart is, look at where your mind goes when it wanders." That would definitely be religion, so...huzzah! I just feel like religions and religious questions are fascinating and that understanding religion is extremely underrated considering the important role it plays in individual lives and in the world generally.

I've kept up with music and art as hobbies to some extent. I've been in a few school ensembles with varying degrees of dedication, and I try to make time every now and then to make some art. If I don't do either one for too long, I feel a little suffocated. So even if they don't (as they most likely won't) end up in my career, they will always be at least hobbies. I really need that time set aside to be creative and expressive - to get that feeling of being totally absorbed in some sort of creation process.

Non-factual information thingamabob time? My favorite book is "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It has a way of explaining life with simplicity that rings true in one's heart. For instance, in one scene the prince and a fox befriend each other. The fox points out that the prince is much like any other little boy, and that the fox is much like any other fox. But the time they share together creates a bond between them, and it is that bond that makes the other seem so special. That seems to be fairly true for my friends, family, home, even self - they are special to me because of what we've experienced together more than because of how brilliant or unique they might be.

Favorite bands/musicians: The Moody Blues (forever and always...I was raised on their music!), Eisley, Sucre, Jethro Tull, The Weepies, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, John Denver, Keane, Coldplay, Josh Groban, Regina Spektor, and assorted soundtracks/scores and oldies rock bands.

I identify as a "Hufflepuff for Life." Hufflepuffs assemble! Badger pride!

Favorite comics: "Calvin and Hobbes" and "Pearls Before Swine"

Okay, it would be harder for the sentences to get any shorter, honestly, so I'll just end here. I actually already wrote one version of this and then I don't know what I did but it got deleted. So this is the shorter, probably less eloquent version haha. Lucky you.

I realized that I was going to end with "TTFN - ta ta for now!" then realized that's exactly how I ended my previous journal entry. I guess I haven't changed ALL that much, haha! But instead I will leave you with an image of how I frequently bow out of conversations in real life: *awkward thumbs-up finger dance combined with awkward smile/grimace facial expression, often combined with a weird sound effect similar to the noise I would imagine a suffocating fish would make* ...true story.
